Indoor Plants: Tips to Keep Them Healthy

Your home looks cleaner and more attractive when you place plants in it. It makes the home more welcoming when you enter and see beautiful green plants around you. But what if the plants start shedding leaves or start dying? At this point, you must know how to take care of them so you can prevent your plants from dying.

A plant needs attention and proper care so it can last longer. Most people often think indoor plants don’t need much care, but in reality, you have to follow certain tips to keep them healthy. Let’s break down those tips below.

Install LED Grow Lights

As you know, indoor plants grow without sunlight or with very minimal light; they still need light, but not as much as direct sunlight, which could destroy them. You can provide your plants the required amount of light by installing indoor LED grow lights.

These lights have specific colour wavelengths that help plants grow even in dark winters. When the light hits indoor plants, they perform photosynthesis, which helps them grow and produce more fruits or flowers.

Water Timely and Correctly

The mistake most people make is thinking that watering the plant more or daily helps with growth, which is completely wrong. If you add too much water, it can deprive the roots of oxygen and cause them to rot, which eventually doesn’t help growth but instead destroys the plant.

Always check 2 to 3 inches of soil to see if it’s dry, and then add water gradually. Plants don’t absorb nutrients from dry soil, and they need water for better absorption. So watering on time helps the minerals dissolve in the soil, and the roots absorb them. Even if you add fertilisers, without water the plant won’t survive and will end up dying.

Use the Right Pot

When you place indoor plants, always make sure to choose the right pot for it. A pot must have holes. These help the water pass and keep the roots healthy. If you have a ceramic pot, then try adding a cachepot, which is a plastic nursery liner. When watering, simply lift it out, then place it back in the ceramic pot.

Keep Them Clean

Even though you have indoor plants, your place still could have dust, which sits on the leaves. This dust becomes a barrier between light and the leaves, and the leaves cannot absorb more sunlight, which affects their growth.

When you keep the foliage clean, it boosts the photosynthesis process and keeps the plants vibrant. When you clean the plants by yourself, you can also detect any early signs of pests and treat them.

Use Fertilizers

Fertilisers for indoor plants are important, but you should not use them without knowing about them. They should only be used in the specific season, like spring or summer. Overusing fertilisers can burn the roots and damage the leaves.

There is a separate fertiliser for indoor plants. Known as an all-purpose organic liquid houseplant fertiliser. Always prefer under-fertilising your plant instead of over-fertilising.
